Alzheimer’s Society is
working tirelessly to
fund research and improve
care and support
Epson is partnering with Alzheimer’s Society to understand the role of print in supporting people with dementia and helping them live more independently at home. From printing off pictures of family, friends, hobbies and pets for reminiscence activities, to maintaining routines through printing To Do lists, calendars and reminders, or printing off signage for rooms and the contents of cupboards in the home, there are many ways that print can have a positive impact on the lives of people living with dementia.
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. Dementia devastates lives and it is the UK’s biggest killer. Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity. Every day we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training and support services to all who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so more people with dementia can live well without fear and prejudice.
Dementia is a relentless and progressive condition meaning daily tasks become increasingly challenging. Nearly one million people in the UK live with dementia today and over 90% rely on unpaid help from family and friends to manage basic daily tasks, meaning there is an urgent need to find real world solutions to allow people to live independently at home.
Alzheimer’s Society’s innovation programme is designed to meet this urgent need by taking the very best ideas to improve lives of people with dementia and implementing them as quickly as possible. We recognise that in order to stand the best chance of improving the lives of people with dementia, we need to involve the greatest minds from a broad range of backgrounds. At the heart of the programme is a crowdsourcing site where anyone can put forward ideas and challenges for exploration. These ideas are then voted for by a broad and engaged audience, ensuring the most promising ideas get Alzheimer’s Society support.
By donating cashback from your EcoTank purchase, Epson customers will fund an innovation sprint, enabling the Alzheimer’s Society team to invest in the next brilliant idea and rapidly develop it into a marketable product or service that will make a huge difference to the lives of people living with dementia. Thanks to everyone helping us make the next great idea a reality!

How can your donation help?
Refresh is a smartphone app that gives personalised memory support to help people with dementia. Alzheimer’s Society has supported ‘How Do I?’, the team behind the app, through our innovation programme. Many people with dementia struggle to remain independent and live at home for as long as they wish. The Refresh app aims to change that by helping people with dementia live independently for longer.
This clever app helps people with dementia, or family and friends, to make videos and link them to objects in the home. These videos can help with remembering how to complete a task, or capture memories of activities people have taken part in and don’t want to forget. When they need support, the person with dementia just has to scan the object with their smartphone, and they’ll see the personalised video.

2 Average number of cartridges required /savings achieved printing the same
number of pages using the ink bottles included within the EcoTank range, excluding hardware price.
Comparison made on the average of the A4 EcoTank range versus the average of the top 10 best-selling
models in Western Europe, in the period January 2017– December 2017, as tracked by GfK. Printing costs
calculated on the proportion of Standard and XL cartridges as tracked by GfK for the same reference
period for the Western European market, using average retail prices. Ink cartridge yields as
communicated by the manufacturer’s websites.
3 Quoted yields are extrapolated based on Epson original methodology from the
print simulation test patterns provided in ISO/IEC 24712 or 29103. Quote yields are NOT based on ISO/IEC
24711 or 20102. Quote yields may vary depending on the images that you are printing, the paper type you
are using, the frequency of your prints and environmental conditions such as temperature. During the
initial printer setup, a certain amount of ink is used to fill the print head’s nozzles, therefore the
yield of the initial bundled set will be lower.
