Windows 11 | Epson Scan crashing on startup

Relates to:

  • Epson Scan
  • Windows 11
  • PC with RealTek camera TWAIN driver

Explanation:

Epson Scan crashes on startup, on certain PC’s running Windows 11. The issue occurs on PC’s using a Realtek Camera driver file. This is a known bug in windows 11.

Solution:

Until the bug is corrected a temporary work around is to check if the customer is using a PC with a RealTek camera driver and if so relocate it. Please note doing so will mean that the camera can not be used for TWAIN functions.

The driver file name, if present, will be RtTWN.ds and can be found in the following location by default. C:\Windows\twain_32\rtsuvc\RtTWN.ds.

You will need to right click on the file and select the move or cut option and then select a different location to paste/move the file to.
